The Korea Research Institute for Local Administration (KRILA), led by President Yook Dong-il, attended the 10th General Assembly and Forum of the Megacity Think Tank Alliance (MeTTA), held in Beijing, China, from October 22 to 23, 2026.
The event provided a platform for MeTTA member institutions to share policy experiences and research findings on urban and regional development and strengthen their international policy research networks. Through exchanges among member institutions, participants explored policy responses to challenges facing cities and regions and discussed future directions for cooperation.
President Yook participated in the General Assembly, engaging with representatives of member institutions and exploring opportunities to expand international cooperation in local administration and regional policy. The event also provided an opportunity to share KRILA’s research achievements and policy experience in local administration with the international community and strengthen cooperation with overseas partner institutions.
At the Forum, Dr. Won Do Lee, Associate Research Fellow at KRILA, delivered a presentation entitled “Strengthening Public-Private Data Partnerships to Mitigate Shrinking Communities by Leveraging Data.” He introduced approaches to estimating the living population in depopulation areas by integrating public and private sector data and analyzing regional demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening public-private collaboration and establishing a sustainable institutional framework to enhance the effectiveness of data-driven policymaking.
Since becoming a full member of MeTTA in August 2024, KRILA has continued to participate in the international policy research network. KRILA will continue to expand international cooperation in local administration and regional policy through sustained engagement with member institutions. By sharing policy experiences and research findings at home and abroad, the Institute aims to contribute to resident-centered local administration and the sustainable development of local communities.
